Gemma Fulton
#1 VP Student Activities
Hi I’m Gemma and now in my third year. I have enthusiastically engaged in a variety of opportunities offered by the Students’ Union since my first year. I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Herts, which is mainly due to all the activities I have been involved in:
-
Team Leader for East African Playgrounds: supporting a group of volunteers in raising over £6000 and built a playground with them in Uganda 2014, winning best volunteer committee and best volunteering group at the Herts SU Awards 2014!
-
Set up the History Society in my second year, as President
-
Humanities SSRO, after being a student rep since my first year
-
Events and Collections Coordinator for Raise and Give
-
Member of Athletic Union Dance Club
-
Member of Herts SU Drama Society, winning best female newcomer and best monologue in my first year
-
Student Ambassador
-
Mentor for the National Scholarship Mentoring Programme
Why I’m standing
I am passionate about enhancing the student experience via the activities offered by the University. I am confident the experience I have gained throughout my time at Herts, will put me in a strong position to help develop the activities offered by the Students Union further.
I Promise to . . .
Course related Skills and Volunteering
I will work with the different schools across the university to set up a programme of course specific volunteering opportunities for students. I will also speak to employers to see what key skills they want, to develop the Student Skills training programme.
More opportunities for societies
I will provide support to societies to ensure they continue to develop and flourish. I will set up a societies Christmas ball, to celebrate mid-year achievements and encourage partnership between different societies.
Increase support for Give It A Go
I will ensure more support and promotion goes into the small but successful Give It A Go programme, enabling more students to get involved in a diverse range of opportunities.
Halls League
Work with the VP Media and Communications to promote and continue the progress of the Halls League. I will offer a range of events across both campuses that will bring together home, international and mature students, to strengthen our campus community.
Sport accessible to all students
I will continue to provide opportunities in sport for all students, either for fun or competition. I will develop the range of sports offered by the Halls League and support the progress of Athletic Union teams.
Why Vote for Me?
My experience in working heavily within the Students’ Union will allow me to develop the activities offered across all levels. I believe it is important to enhance the overall student experience via the range of activities offered. I will continue to offer a range of activities to suit all interests, not only for fun, but also to enable graduate employability.
