Rana Omer Farooq
#1 VP Education & Welfare
I’m Rana Omer Farooq, currently Vice-President Education and Welfare at Hertfordshire Students Union. I graduated from the university last year with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I have been involved with the SU and was your International Students’ Officer during my degree. I have acquired so many skills and experience in my current role and feel like I still have a lot more to offer to the students. I am running for the same position again this year.
Why I’m standing
Being the current elected VP Education & Welfare I want to continue my work, and I am in the best position to improve student experience. I love working for students, and love helping people!
I Promise to . . .
Multi Faith on Campus
Students need to have proper multi-faith provision available at the Dehav campus to make it convenient for those living and studying there when they perform their respective religion. I will continue to monitor the quiet space to improve it to make it a more studious environment.
Healthy Lifestyle Campaigns
Students should be informed about ways to improve their studies and staying physically and mentally healthy will help them perform better. I will hold more campaigns centered about making students more healthy!
Interactive Campus Map
I will push for a ‘sat nav’ interactive map with touchscreen boards, to help students find their way around campus easily.
Technological Teaching Methods
I will make sure the university continues to invest in the latest teaching methods and facilities, to ensure students have the best learning experience which will enable them to enhance their study experience.
More Multicultural Events
I will hold more events to celebrate the diverse cultural makeup of students at our university. Audiences will gain knowledge of the different cultures around the university and see how communities outside the UK live, which will help in the full integration of all students.
What I've achived so far?
I have been working with the university to see how we can use technology to support students in learning more effectively. I have been managing looking after the quiet room on Dehav, which can be used for prayer reflection by students of any faith or no-faith. I have constantly been monitoring the room and putting forward immediate improvements and suggestions. I started Conversational English classes to ensure that all students can be active members of our university community.
